Furnishing a home comes with many hard truths. Among them: Chic ceiling fans are seemingly impossible to source. We settle for regarding them as necessary evils for keeping a room cool, masking their boring silhouettes with fun floor lamps and other mood lighting. But IKEA wants to change all that.
The Swedish superstore just dropped a small collection of design-focused fans that offer up a much-needed breath of fresh air. Available exclusively in the United States, each one is focused on saving energy without disrupting a good night’s sleep. All of the designs have reversible airflow functionality, meaning they can be used year-round. So, the basics are covered, but are they actually cute?

Short answer: Yes. A handful of them have faux wooden accents (Aktertofter and Akterskarp), giving them a vibe that hits far higher than the price point. Some have remote controls, meaning you won’t have to even roll over to crank up that breeze. The $40 Backlag fan caught our eye as a great solution for small spaces—think: a kid’s room, an especially large walk-in closet, or that sunroom you’ve always wanted to turn into a reading nest.

Aksterstagad (available in grey or beige) is another one with oak-looking blades, but it’s the oversized scale of the lampshade that puts a smile on our face. We’ll call this collection a small step for ceiling fan design, and a massive leap for well-circulated interiors.
In the market for handsome ceiling fans? Here are a few others that’ll help you forget central air exists.
