Kitchens and bathrooms usually hog the renovation spotlight—and budget. While those spaces may promise the biggest return on investment, they’re not where you spend a third of your life. If you’re clocking a solid eight hours a night, that’s more than four months a year spent in bed. So it’s no surprise that this summer, all eyes are on the bedroom.
Yelp’s 2025 Summer Home and Outdoor Trends report surfaced one surprising stat: Requests for bedroom remodels have jumped a staggering 1,108%. Alongside a growing interest in restoring character and ditching millennial gray (something Domino has been tracking since January), sleep-friendly upgrades—think new mattresses, blackout curtains, and dialed-in HVAC systems—are suddenly top of mind.
Compared to kitchens and baths, bedrooms can feel like an easy win, which is probably why they’re often overlooked. But considering everyone benefits from better sleep and nothing feels more inviting than a well-designed bedroom, this spike makes perfect sense. Ready to remodel? These ideas from Domino before-and-afters prove just how good a bedroom reno can be.
Highlight the Fireplace

Homeowners and renters are prioritizing fireplace services in 2025—according to Yelp’s report it’s up 35 percent—and Leanne Kilroy of Good Bones can relate. When this interior designer and her family moved into this London home in 2020, they took their time restoring what they could and reimagining what no longer worked. The fireplace in the primary bedroom fit into both camps, but when they found this red marble surround on the side of the road, a pro worked with them to give this focal point a new chapter. The lesson? If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your bedroom, embrace it.
Add Historic Features

When designer Hollie Velten-Lattrell was hired by a young couple to renovate their 1910 colonial in New Jersey, one of the challenges was maximizing space in their period-appropriate bedroom without giving up on style. As is the case with another detail found in the Yelp report, Velten-Lattrell and the owners found a solution that safeguarded their budget, too: reimagining historic pieces instead of buying new (hardware replacement is up 91 percent). The 14-inch sconces from the 1940s clear out space on the nightstands while adding a warm glow.
Repurpose Salvaged Finds

When Aubrey Ament and Will Glaser, duo behind the design firm GLAM Studio, were renovating their Brooklyn home, they also turned to a popular solution in Yelp’s report: using reclaimed materials. While visiting a salvage yard is up 42 percent, the couple didn’t have to go that far. The home next door was an exact replica of their place, and the new owner gave them permission to see if the historic mantel across the way was in better shape—and it was. A professional was able to restore it for their home—proof that a little history can go a long way in adding an old-meets-new charm to your bedroom.
Install Playful Wallpaper

Creative director Elizabeth Spiridakis Olson is accustomed to making a statement, but she wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to say when it came to the design of the primary bedroom she shares with her husband. So, she hired designer Hollie Velten-Lattrell to help, and they agreed on using a colorful wallpaper filled with squiggly lines. In fact, this choice was ahead of its time, because Yelp’s report found that statement wallpaper is up 18 percent. You can follow suit with a chair rail that’s painted in a coordinating shade to inject a fun vibe.
Incorporate Dreamy Details

Designer Victoria Adesanmi sleeps best while traveling, but after a trip to Tulum got cancelled, she decided to use that destination as inspiration for a permanent vacation in her bedroom. Aside from picking out the right mattress and pillows to suit your sleep style (up 25 percent and 69 percent respectively) take Adesanmi’s lead by adding airy accents into your space. She used limewash to add texture to the walls and hung pendant lamps sourced from Etsy from the ceiling. She also made sure to invest in furnishings that she could keep for years and sought out small businesses as much as possible. That kind of thoughtfulness makes it possible to rest easily.
